Gods Kings and Utopias The Tale of Humanity

An old man with grey hair stands out from the dominant crowd wearing white clothing

and hat to match his ensemble. He stands straight across from the Great Leader with a cane nestled snugly under his right arm.

“You speak of lies, you diluted king!” he says. “What inclination leads you to believe that immortality exists? What facts; what evidence; what convictions do you have? Only God grants us life beyond this earth. You speak mere words and elude us from the truth. As long as God is my witness, I shall never follow you!”

“You speak of foolery my lad, for I have just showed you the product of my creation!” the king exclaims as he points to the wrinkled man. “What more proof do you need? Nonetheless, I welcome you, child, into my kingdom. I know that your old age has withered away your senses and poisoned your brain. I shall not hold that against you, even though your God will. But, fear not. Soon you will live in peace and without such capricious thoughts. In the end, the Kingdom of Humanity will prevail!”

The old man leans to one side on his cane and looks straight at the King’s face. His beaded eyes pierce the thick stare of the King’s with a harsh condemning glare. Franklin stares back. His eyebrows rise furiously and his eyes look about ready to pop out of their sockets. He clenches his fists, while his veins take shape and become ever more evident on his arm. He takes a deep breath and flushes out his anger.

“Guards, take this lovely man into my palace and shower him with all the glories of our kingdom,” King Franklin hastily speaks, while a sickening smile begins to grow bigger on his face. “Make him relish in our kind affection and please don’t forget to cloth him properly. He looks different in those clothes of his.”

The masses cringe as they turn to look at the old man and remember the compliance they promised the king in return for their welfare. The two guards dressed in black uniforms walk in sync up to the old man. They’re look of robotic indifference suggest they have performed such “special treatments” for citizens many times before. They tightly grab the man, put him on the horse, and gallop off until their figures are mere specs in the distance.

“As for the rest of you, my fair brethren, let that old man be an example to you all!” Franklin exclaimed. “We have conquered so much together and must not let anything get in our way! We have seized nearly every territory and expanded our righteous kingdom! But, we must attain more! We have yet to conquer Normandy and spread the good news of immortality to their people. Those wretched souls are misled by a false God and need our way of life! I will set every man free. Guilty or not, everyone deserves to live. Death will not conquer us. We shall vanquish it and liberate ourselves!”

“Yes, my lord, we shall break free,” thousands of voices chant together.

The hills extend beyond the horizon. The once streaming sun escapes; it finds shelter in the thickening clouds, and returns to its peaceful slumber. The trees grow weary in the empty, windy fields. They swing back and forth ferociously without inclination. The countless bodies march simultaneously in one direction under the moonlight. Their hands move in sync with one another and their feet stomp rapidly, leaving foot tracks in the mud. The masses cling to each other for support; their eyes washed of color and emotion. They trudge anxiously into the brisk night to their dwellings and await the tayloristic lifestyle of the next day.

An array of glass buildings lay closely snuggled next to each other on the eastside of the kingdom. King Franklin orders all houses to be made of glass and deems it necessary to know what everyone is doing no matter the time of day. A white picket fence surrounds each house and a welcome mat with the words “Reign For All Eternity” is placed neatly in front of each door. The greenest grass surrounds each house. Workers come every week to clean the glass, and repaint the fences. New houses are constantly built to accommodate the ever-growing population of King Franklin’s workers.

Everyday the citizens of The Kingdom of Humanity wake up and undergo the same promising routine. Women master the craft of pleasing their husbands, looking after the kids until the age of fifteen, and illuminating the household. Men work for the imperial army and seize nations through the method of “progressive imperialism” from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, except Sunday. Young girls take after their mothers and young boys are trained to join the imperial army at the age of 15. Every Sunday, families attend rallies to hear King Franklin proclaim the gospel of immortality and the scientific advancement of man. No one prays to God to be washed of his or her sins, for King Franklin has bestowed upon everyone the gift of eternal life. He is their ultimate provider.
